It seemed like yesterday when we were discussing the fact that Facebook was developing a Facebook At Work version of the social network. Just a few hours ago we reported how LinkedIn is planning to incorporate new features in order to stop Facebook‘s march to the professional field. Now, TechCrunch reports that Facebook has finally soft-launched its much awaited app, named “Facebook At Work”.

For the time being, the app is fully functional only for a small number of companies, with Facebook being the first to adopt it. According to the same sources, the new app will have the same look and feel with the Facebook app we all know and love. This means that users won’t have to learn new tricks – which can prove to be an important advantage for Facebook at Work, leading to increased adoption.
Users have the option to either create a separate login account or use their personal profile – they don’t have to worry though, as actions taken within the app will not be shown to their personal Facebook profile. If their company is already using Facebook at Work, they can set up your account by clicking the link in the email they received or by visiting [CompanyName].facebook.com (ex: company.facebook.com) from their computer.
Facebook at Work won’t serve any ads and won’t allow connections with apps, at least for now. This leaves plenty of room for speculation, especially about the monetisation scheme that it will follow. It looks possible that Facebook is considering paid subscription, but no official confirmation has reached our ears yet.
Facebook has also launched a help page that provides users with some initial information.
