The new Twitter timelines feature can be found on Fabric’s Twitter Kit and allows developers to embed tweets or search results within their app. According to the announcement, developers can show tweets from specific accounts or search queries, using only a few lines of codes.
Apart from that, Twitter timelines offer some exciting extras for developers, as they can customise background and text colours to match those of the app. There are two apps that use embedded timelines and enjoy great success; Citymapper is already showing a timeline of Tweets to keep their users up to date with all news on transportation and Regal Cinemas uses search timelines that show latest reviews of various films.
This latest addition is available for both iOS and Android, through Fabric platform.
Apart from that, Twitter wants to offer the in-app timelines experience to all users, even if they are not logged-in. For this reason, it’s launching guest authentication, built into timelines, which will “let your app access content from Twitter’s API without needing a user context“.
