Messenger is growing fast! So fast in fact, that it now has over 1.2 billion monthly active users – making it roughly double the size of Instagram, and close to 500 million short of Facebook’s 1.68 billion monthly active users.
In a Facebook post this week, vice president of messaging products David Marcus announced that Messenger is now used by more than 1.2 billion people each month, marking a 20% increase since its last milestone in June – when it surpassed 1 billion MAUs.
We now have over 1.2 billion people actively using Messenger every month. And I keep on hearing powerful stories about how our product is becoming a more important part of your daily lives. So from all of us here at Messenger, a heartfelt thank you to all of you for giving us a chance to build something good and more meaningful for you.
Yup, it seems there is no stopping Messenger at this point.
But this impressive growth hasn’t just happened on its own. Messenger has introduced a host of new features – bots, group payments, its M assistant, polling, quick replies, Snapchat-like Messenger Day, special effects on videos and photos, and much much more. Messenger is steaming ahead, leaving Snapchat in a bit of a tough spot.
Given Snapchat’s lack of great advertising solutions, and Messenger’s business model being all about advertising — Messenger is in a unique position to grow, both in terms of users, and revenue.
At last year’s F8 conference, Facebook launched bots on Messenger. That was a big step forward. How will Messenger be “beefed up” this year?
