Narcissism has officially been taken to new heights, 30,000 feet to be exact! The latest social media trend comes from China and is pretty ridiculous: 抖音最近流行假裝坐飛機 or what roughly translates to Fake A Plane Ride Challenge.
We get it. Jet-setting is glamorous. And nothing says social media rockstar more than being able to travel the world. BUT how far would you go, to ‘fake it until you make it’?
Let’s just say some people are willing to bust some toilet seats… yes, that’s right household items (including toilet seats) have made their way to social media in an effort to ‘fake’ the perfect plane ride spectacle.
And while it hasn’t quite made it to this side of the pond, Chinese social platform, Weibo and its users are certainly having some fun with it! According to the New York Post, this ‘cheeky trend’ and its accompanying hashtag has been seen more than 27 million times. Even Travel + Leisure have had their fun featuring this social media phenomenon.
So, from tropical islands to volcanic views, snow-dusted scapes and more social media users are travelling the world without ever leaving their house! Crazy right?!
Or is it? Probably not when you look back at how popular previous and more dangerous challenges have been. At least this one enables us to get creative!
Unfortunately, we’re also going to chalk this up as another means of ‘faking it’ on social media. But have some fun and let us know where your living room travels take you! Tweet us your #FakeAPlaneRide challenge!
But first… a little inspiration!
And my personal favourite…
So what are you waiting for?! Ready… set… jet-set! And share… obviously!
