Instagram Adds AI Transitions To Turn Stories Into Moving Visuals

Instagram is introducing a new AI-powered feature that transforms still images into dynamic, morphing Story sequences.

Instead of posting static photos or basic slideshows, users can now select multiple images and let Instagram’s AI generate a seamless transition between them, effectively turning a series of photos into a short video.

The feature, called “AI Transition,” allows users to stitch together images into a fluid, animated sequence directly within Stories.

As Instagram explains: “You can use AI transition to create a seamless video from multiple photos in your Instagram story.”

To access it, users simply select two or more images from their gallery, and the AI handles the in-between frames. The final result appears as a video Story rather than a static carousel.

Beyond Stories, the feature could have broader implications. Users can download the generated sequence and repost it as a Reel, offering a new way to create video content without filming anything. In a feed increasingly dominated by motion, this lowers the barrier to entry for video creation even further.

AI transition tools aren’t new, and their results can be hit or miss. In some cases, morphing between images can lead to distorted faces, unnatural movements, or physics-defying visuals. Instagram hasn’t shared official examples yet, so the real test will be how the outputs feel in everyday use.

The feature also reflects Meta’s broader strategy: embedding AI into every layer of content creation. From AI-generated stickers to text tools and now visual transitions, the platform is steadily nudging users toward more automated creativity. Whether this becomes a storytelling tool or just another AI gimmick will depend on one thing: how natural it feels in the feed.
