According to this study, there are a lot of factors that determine which e-laughter you are going to use. Among these one may find age, gender and location. It also states that 15% of people include laughter in a post or comment every week.
So, who is winning after all? It seems that hahas hold the crown, with 51,4% of the demographics using it, when they want to communicate something funny. Sorry emoji, but you lost. Surprisingly enough (?) people in Chicago and New York prefer emoji, while Seattle and San Francisco prefer hahas. Points for SF.
