Facebook is getting even more serious about video and it seems to be openly antagonising its massive rival – YouTube – which seems also to be always one step ahead. It’s highly improbable that Facebook will reach the sheer volume of video content currently on YouTube, but it is surely doing its best to thwart the video giant. The latest piece of proof? New video tools for Page admins on the platform.

The new tools include a feature that allow Pages to post secret videos, as well as a very handy Video Library that helps admins manager their video content. Secret videos only ever show up in the Video Library and are only viewable by those that have the right URL.

Admins also have the opportunity to publish directly to the Videos tab on Pages without posting on newsfeeds or timelines. Not unlike YouTube‘s “unlisted videos” functionality, only users with a specific URL can watch secret videos, making sharing more private if one wants it to be.
It also means that you don’t have to post a video on your Page to be able to have people see it. The feature also gives admins the ability to stop others from embedding videos elsewhere.
Along with secret videos, Facebook is also launching a so-called Video Library for Page admins to save and organise videos for the page. The Library gives admins the opportunity to edit metadata of multiple videos at once, add subtitles, as well as categorise videos depending on interest categories.

This is also where admins can choose the thumbnail to their video.

Within the next few weeks, Facebook Page admins will begin seeing the new functionality in their settings. If you are familiar with YouTube, this is going to make you feel at home. What’s next Facebook? 360-degree video ads?
