After Facebook acquired WhatsApp, many wondered what could happen to the existing Facebook Messenger. Well although Messenger still has to prove itself useful, Facebook updated its app on Thursday with a major new feature – users can now make free voice calls to their Facebook friends.

With the update, you will now see a small phone icon next to your contacts’ names in Facebook Messenger. Simply tap this icon to make a voice call. Of course calls can only be made when both users have access to wifi or a data connection.
