Facebook is making a big push for Meta AI with new creative tools across profile pictures, Feed posts, Stories, and Memories:
- Users can now animate their profile picture with preset effects like confetti, party hats, waves, and hearts.
- Stories and Memories can be “Restyled” using AI presets or custom prompts to shift aesthetics, mood, lighting, and background.
- Text-only Feed posts can now feature animated backgrounds, making status updates more visual and expressive.
Bringing Profile Pictures to Life
Facebook is adding motion to one of its most static elements: the profile picture. Powered by Meta AI, users can now transform a still image into a short animated loop in seconds.
Preset effects include:
- Natural animation
- Party hat
- Confetti
- Wave
- Heart
The idea is simple: instead of swapping out your profile photo for every birthday, holiday, or mood shift, you can add a layer of playful motion that reflects how you’re feeling.
For best results, Facebook recommends using a clear photo of a single person facing the camera. Once animated, the image can be shared to Feed and displayed on your profile like any other update.
More seasonal and event-driven animations are expected throughout the year, hinting at how profile identity is becoming more dynamic and celebratory.

Restyle Your Stories and Memories
Meta is also expanding creative control inside Stories with a feature called Restyle. When uploading a photo to Stories or resurfacing a Memory, users can tap Restyle and either:
- Choose from preset aesthetics (anime, illustrated)
- Adjust moods (glowy)
- Modify lighting (ethereal)
- Shift color palettes (cool, pink)
- Swap backdrops (beach, cityscape)
- Or enter a custom AI text prompt to fully transform the image
It’s a subtle but strategic move. Rather than creating entirely new content, Meta is encouraging users to remix what already exists in their camera roll, extending the life cycle of personal moments, and filling up our feeds with more AI content…

Animated Backgrounds for Text Posts
Text posts aren’t going away, but they are getting more visual.
When composing a text-only Feed post, users can now tap the rainbow “A” icon to add still or animated backgrounds such as falling leaves, ocean waves or seasonal themes.
It’s a small feature with big behavioral implications. Text updates often feel understated compared to video-heavy feeds. But does adding subtle animation gives them more stopping power? I for one, will miss the pause the black on white text update gave me through the feed.

Overall, this rollout signals something bigger than cosmetic upgrades. Meta is turning self-expression into a lightweight creative act. Instead of demanding new photos, videos, or edits, the platform is layering AI-powered enhancements onto existing content.
For users, it lowers the barrier to creativity. For Meta, it increases engagement loops around identity, memory, and mood.
And for brands? It’s another reminder that AI-native personalization is becoming table stakes across social platforms, not just in ads, but in everyday expression.
