Facebook sponsored stories have always been a bit of a story themselves on Facebook. When first launched they received a warm welcome from the community and from advertisers who saw a real “social connection” opportunity in them. However Facebook did not like the recent class-action lawsuit over the use of users’ images in sponsored stories. Today Facebook announced that sponsored stories will be history after April 9, 2014.

The announcement came in Faceook’s Ads API Breaking Changes post:
Facebook will sunset the creation of sponsored stories.
Domain and open graph sponsored stories will no longer be allowed to be created. Existing domain and open graph sponsored stories will cease to have delivery after April 9.
To sum up, Facebook is not completely cutting off sponsored stories, the existing campaigns will keep on running but you will not be able to create new ones.
What is your overall opinion on Sponsored stories? Do you think they will be missed?
