What do Instagram Hyperlapse and the most recent Layout apps all have in common? They all belong to Facebook, yes, that’s right. So it probably will not come as a surprise to find out that Hyperlapse – the easiest way to create polished time lapse videos on your iPhone – and Layout – the latest app that lets you combine multiple photos into a single image – are now fully integrated with the Facebook iOS app.

Facebook’s new strategy is all about standalone apps that will cater for one or more specific needs. This way we had Paper, now Messenger and maybe soon a new breaking news app.
In the same way, since it acquired Instagram, Facebook has been developing “satellite” apps around the platform. Hyperlapse and Layout are cool add-ons, but they did not really conquer the crowds.

So, in a move to push these apps onto new users, Facebook is now fully integrating them into its iOS app. If you tap on “Add Photos and More” from your Facebook Newsfeed, you will now have direct access to both Hyperlapse and Layout, on top of the traditional “write post”, “Share photo”and “Check in.” If these apps are not installed on your phone, you will be invited to do so.
This is a clever move from Facebook. Shamelessly self promoting its own “sister” apps will certainly prove to be a growth strategy success for the network which already counts the largest number of users in the world.
