Games have always been one of the main pillars for Facebook‘s expansion. Many casual gamers have joined the social media platform to compete in games like FarmVille or, more recently, Candy Crush.
Facebook knows this segment of users is very important, and the company is now currently beta-testing a new desktop app, entirely dedicated to gaming.
Facebook Games Arcade is a standalone desktop app that allows users to play games on the platform without having to go through Facebook.com via a web browser. The app also promises a “faster and better gaming experience.”

The company confirmed to Socialtimes that Facebook Games Arcade is available for beta-testing in all countries, but, apparently, only on Windows computers for the moment. A Facebook spokesperson explained:
Facebook Games Arcade is still very early in development, and it is a dedicated, immersive experience we are building solely for gamers. It is a new way for people to easily discover new games and easily access them on desktop. We will continue to test and make improvements based on performance and feedback.
A quick review of the Facebook Games Arcade shows 3 main categories of games that you can access directly with the click of a mouse:
- – My Games: these are the games you are currently playing. It synchronises automatically with the games you are also playing on Facebook.com or via the mobile app.
- – Recommended games: these are games Facebook believes you would like to be playing. Usually these games will be prompted to you because of their similarities with other games you already play.
- – Browse: this is where you can go and browse through all the games that are available on the app
Overall, with Facebook Games Arcade, Facebook promises a faster and better gaming experience because the app is built for games, and only for that. It lets you create and manage shortcuts to your favourite games and your settings will be kept even if you keep on playing your games on Facebook.com or mobile, in between sessions on your desktop.
