Never miss an update or a new product by your favourite creators, with the help of Kickstarter’s latest service: Drip.
Kickstarter has been synonymous with crowdfunding, it’s not a coincidence that it has become a verb – like “Google” for example. More than $3 billion has been pledged on the platform since its launch in 2009, and hundreds of thousands of projects have been funded with the help of its community.
Now it’s time to take a leap forward and evolve the platform. Kickstarter’s amazing power doesn’t only exist thanks to its backers. Its creators have found an outlet and an opportunity to make their ideas and products come to life. Many of them are serial creators with a dedicated following and admirers. Others are working on longer-term projects that require constant streams of funding.
For this reason, Kickstarter has just launched Drip, a new tool for creators, that allows them to fund their creative practice through the ongoing support of people who love their work. It works with creators defining monthly contribution levels, aka ‘Funding Membership Periods’, so that their backers can choose the one that is best for them – and their pocket.
Recurring payments are powered by the 8-year experience that Kickstarter has currently. Integration is strong with this one, too, as current members of the platform can use their existing Kickstarter credentials to use Drip.
Drip is a solid step forward in the right direction. To be fair, there are other established creator/patron platforms out there, such as Patreon for example, but Kickstarter’s 13.7 million members give a headstart to Drip, which will undoubtedly take a bite out of the market pie.
So far, Drip is invitation-only for new creators, however, you can subscribe to its newsletter and be notified when it becomes available to all.
