The winners of the 21st Annual Webby Awards were announced this week, and BBDO New York has been named Agency of the Year.
This year’s awards ceremony on 15 May, will be hosted at Cipriani New York by Joel McHale, and BBDO New York will be awarded six Webby Awards and this year’s People’s Voice Award. The Webby Awards, organised by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, recognise “excellence on the internet,” as executive director of the Webby Awards, David-Michel Davies, explains,
[quote]Whether through humorous, inspiring or sobering messages and imagery, this year’s winning campaigns and branded content captivated internet fans around the world. We’re honored to recognize the Webby Award-winning creative work this year that broke the mold by elevating controversial issues, asking provocative questions and entertaining and inspiring the Internet community.[/quote]
And this year had plenty of excellent submissions. Well, there were also plenty of awards to go around and several big agencies dominated the awards. Droga5 won five Webby Awards and four Webby nominations, McCann New York won five Webby Awards and four Webby nominations, R/GA won three Webby Awards and four Webby nominations, while Wieden+Kennedy won two Webby Awards and four Webby nominations.
Awarded campaigns include “Meet Graham,” an Integrated Campaign from Clemenger BBDO Melbourne, “Serena Williams’ Match Point,” a Mobile Advertising campaign from TBWA\Chiat\Day LA, “Girls of Paradise,” a cause-related campaign from McCann Paris, “Adios Amigo,” a PR launch from Havas New York, and many many others like
