To celebrate World Emoji Day on July 17, Apple has previewed some of the new emoji coming to its devices late in the year.
When the Unicode Consortium updates its standard, you know there are new emojis on the way. Sure enough, the Consortium unveiled Unicode 10 recently, and with it, 56 new emojis will be included. In case you are wondering, there are currently 2,666 in circulation, according to Emojipedia.
To celebrate World Emoji Day, and to show that it is ready for the update, Apple promptly teased some of the new emojis coming to its devices later in the year, with its iOS 11 update. And here they are – Woman with Headscarf, Bearded Person, Breastfeeding, Sandwich, Coconut, T-Rex, Zebra, Zombie and Elf, and a few more interesting ones like Star-Struck and Exploding Head smiley faces.
Also in celebration of World Emoji Day, Apple dressed the App Store in emoji, highlighting apps and other things you can do with emoji. It even changed select movie titles with emoji.
Apple wasn’t the only one to celebrate. Over the weekend, Facebook also teased with some info about its users’ favourite and most-used emoji. Any idea which it is? In any case, the world seems to have gone “emoji-mad” lately. We even have an Emoji Movie coming out soon. *sigh
