Instagram is turning 5 this October 6. It is a big birthday for the visual social network that also hits the 400 million active monthly users milestone a few days ago.
To celebrate its vibrant, diverse and global community, Instagram announced #todayimet.

Worldwide Instameet 12 is set to take place during the weekend of October 3rd and 4th and, since it is just days before Instagram’s 5th birthday, the theme of #WWIM12 will be all about its community.
If you like our stories, there is an easy way to stay updated:
Users across the world will be invited to share #todayimet portraits of the people they meet, helping others discover and connect with new people on the platform.
Just go to your local Instameet (find it on the map here) – or start your own if there is nothing organised near where you live – and ask people you meet there about their favourite Instagram account. Take a portrait of them and share that account and their own username in the copy with the hashtags #todayimet and #whoifollow.
I love this idea, because it is really at the heart of what social media is all about: connect with more and new people. And it starts with #todayimet.
