Voice calling on WhatsApp appeared on Android and iOS, just over a year ago, in April 2015. So, to have reached such a massive milestone already is a major success for WhatsApp.

WhatsApp’s voice calling was well-received by users, being seen as a great way to stay in touch with friends and family in times where unlimited data has become more common (and cheaper) than the expensive minutes most mobile operators include in their monthly plans.

In a recent blog post, WhatsApp claims that over 100 million of these voice conversations are taking place on the app every day.

Of course WhatsApp counts 1 billion users worldwide, and yes, some users are probably making more than one voice call a day. But this is still a very impressive number for the app.

Moreover, because its main competitor, Skype, has only about 300 million monthly active users, it is easy to imagine how WhatsApp is way ahead in terms of daily voice calls, despite being 12 years younger… Is that the power of Facebook talking perhaps?
