After removing the character limit of direct messages (they are actually still limited, but at 10,000 characters), Twitter is now rolling out desktop notifications for DMs on Twitter.com.

The notifications will show up on the top right side of your screen, in the very style known to mac users. Clicking on the notifications will take you directly to the DM interface on Twitter.com.
