Following the success of Twitter Lite, and the subsequent launch of an Android app by the same name in the Philippines only months ago, Twitter has announced the availability of the app in 24 more countries.

In April, Twitter launched Twitter Lite – a new faster web experience that cuts down on data usage and loads faster – in order to help increase engagement and usage among users who don’t have access to reliable internet connections. Available through, it brought a big increase of engagement: 50% increase of Tweets sent from the mobile site. Following many updates and the addition of several useful features, Twitter decided to make a Twitter Lite Android app as well.

This was made available on the Google Play Store in the Philippines. Following its success, it’s making the app available to Android users in 24 more countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, and Latin America. Users in Algeria, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Egypt, Israel, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Malaysia, Nigeria, Nepal, Panama, Peru, Serbia, El Salvador, South Africa, Thailand, Tunisia, Tanzania, and Venezuela will now have access to the Twitter Lite app.

The app is ideal if you’re using a slower data connection like 2G or 3G, and only takes up around 3MB of space on your device. It loads faster, minimises data usage, and even offers offline support if you suddenly lose your data connection. Finally, it also offers a data saver mode which allows you to only download images or videos that you want to see.

If you’re based in one of the 25 countries it’s available in, you can download Twitter Lite from the Play Store. If you’re not, you can simply use Twitter Lite through your browser at
