If you have checked your direct messages on Twitter today, you may have noticed that something is missing; the 140 characters limit. Yes, that’s right, there is no longer a limitation to how long your DMs can be.

Starting from today, you will be able to have proper conversations via Twitter DMs, without having to worry about cutting your message to a bunch of 140 characters.

If you like our stories, there is an easy way to stay updated:

Twitter is marketing the update as “unlimited length” but on a note to developers, back in July, was announcing a new upper limit of 10,000 characters. But, even if this was indeed the limit, it stills seems like long enough, right? I mean, whoever needs more than 10,000 characters to chat with a friend should really consider opening a blog instead.

The update is starting to roll out today for all users across the globe. It is available for all versions of Twitter, including the iOS and Android apps, Twitter for mac, Tweetdeck and, of course, the web version. Note that the update may take as much as a couple of weeks to come to your account, so be patient if you don’t get it straight away (or rant in 140-character messages until you do get to see the update.)

The funny thing came from the fact that Twitter made a lot of effort explaining that tweets themselves are still (of course) limited to 140 characters.

Now, when will Twitter finally let us bulk delete messages?
