After Facebook decided to let them work on its platform, GIFs are once again making the headlines. This time, it is because Tumblr is launching its own GIF search engine. YAY!

GIFs are everything on Tumblr, which has become the reference platform for them. With the new feature, users will be able to search and find GIFs on Tumblr and add them to their own posts.

The new GIF search engine does not rely on any third-party integration. It (only) includes GIFs that have already been posted on Tumblr. They are indexed and cataloged based on the tags they were uploaded with. The rest is up to Tumblr’s own search algorithms to bring the right ones up when you search for something.

Tumblr also explained that when reposting a GIF found on the platform, the original creator will also be credited.

To add a GIF to your post, you will now be able to do so by clicking on the “+” button, then clicking on the “GIF” button before you can enter your search terms. Once you select it, it is automatically added to your post with credit for the creator, immediately below the image. In his turn, the creator will receive a notification that someone has used his GIF. Awesome?
