Snickers Bars Get Cheaper When Social Networks Gets Angry

Snickers believes that “You’re not yourself when you’re hungry” and that causes you to become… unpleasant let’s say.

We also know that the Internet is an angry place. It’s a stigma of our modern world. We go online to rant. But what if Snickers could make the internet a better place, by helping people feel less hungry, hence less unpleasant?

Introducing the HUNGERithm, the world’s first algorithm that lowers the price of candy bars when they are most needed: when the internet is too angry.

Together with Clemenger BBDO, Snickers Australia launched HUNGERithm, a new app that monitors the overall mood of the internet, and lowers the price of Snickers bars accordingly.

The angrier people get online, the lower the price of Snickers bars. At any time, app users can choose to buy a Snickers at the current price – which can go as low as $0.50 – and get an on-screen voucher that can be redeemed at any 7Eleven store.

I love the interactivity and wittiness of this activation. It obviously leads to more sales for Snickers bars, but it also takes a funny stand on how we all use the internet to rant, often because we think it can have an impact on brands that will then come back to us with discounted offers or freebies.

Thank you Snickers, thank you BBDO. You made the internet a better place just by creating this campaign.
