Pinterest launched Promoted Pins two years ago, and since then they have helped advertisers bring millions of people to their content. Now, after recently expanded Promoted Pins in the UK, Pinterest is bringing them to Canada as well.
Since 2014, Promoted Pins have “helped the millions of people who visit Pinterest to find ideas for all parts of their lives.” And then earlier in 2016, Promoted Pins were made available in the UK. Now, with the expansion into Canada, there are many more opportunities for advertisers to reach their audiences. But why Canada? Well, it’s a special market for Pinterest due mainly to its growth. Pinners in Canada increased 50% YoY in 2015!
Also, Canadian Pinners have saved over 4.4 billion ideas over the year – 3.9 million Pins per day, in categories such as food & drink, women’s fashion, home decor, hair & beauty, and DIY & crafts – no surprises here, but the numbers are staggering!
In the announcement for the expansion, Paul Baltescu at Pinterest, explained that the company has been working “with partners who’ve already seen a lot of engagement from their content on Pinterest.” These include brands like Sport Chek and Canadian Tire. Baltescu also explained that,
Ads aren’t new for Canadian Pinners, but now they’ll begin to see Promoted Pins from local companies. We’re excited to see what creative approaches Canadian businesses take to this new opportunity.
