The social media trend is on standalone apps. That’s partly due to users going more and more mobile, and partly because this evolution is lead by Facebook itself.

Today, The Wall Street Journal reported that LinkedIn is currently developing not one, but two new standalone apps.

Standalone apps allow for platforms to offer something more specific to users, in order, maybe, to actually gain more users who would not have been tempted by the holistic platform. For users, it allows to focus on specific functionalities and maximise their experience.

So What Apps Is LinkedIn Getting Ready To Launch?

LinkedIn is currently developing two new standalone apps: LinkedIn Groups and LinkedIn LookUp.

LinkedIn Groups is a straight forward app that notifies users when something is posted in groups to which they belong. LinkedIn LookUp is more interesting: it allows workers to find out information about their colleagues, the people working within their company or organisation.

It’s unclear whether any of those apps will actually pass an eventual beta testing and be made available for all users. One thing is for sure however, LinkedIn is looking for new ways to expand its business. And mobile is definitely the right way to look.
