It’s a guilty pleasure really, but we all secretly love to photograph and share our meals on Instagram. It gets much better if your subject gives you some “street cred” or if it gets you worldwide attention as is the case of the still anonymous yet very awesome @chefjacqueslamerde who puts a Michelin-star spin on ordinary junk food.

Well, it’s all about the presentation, right?

@chefjacqueslamerde‘s Instagram account reminded me of seeing a video of food critics being fed McDonalds instead of some fancy recipe… it would be a good idea to ask whether they could tell the difference. They of course, could not.

They actually loved it! If you didn’t know any better (and if you ignored the caption that is), you’d think that the following is a plate actually carefully prepared by an award-winning chef.

 

  But nooooo… would you believe me if I told you it’s just “tartar of hand cut hot rod, Eatnomiku egg yolk, and “intense pickle” Doritos soil”? Doritos soil? Sounds yummy, but at the same time totally – and appropriately – pretentious. Absolute #foodporn. Well, that’s the main course.

But what’s for dessert? Voila! Compliments to the chef! Raspberry portrait parfait with vanilla snack pack and grape crush scented gel and enhaced with Mike n Ikes, cry babies and fruity Mentos!   

Of course @chefjacqueslamerde is just one of the thousands of Instagram parody accounts out there, and a very successful one at that, with over 70k followers in less than 6 months. Having no idea of who @chefjacqueslamerde is, I would still think that he (or she) is  an expert “plater” at the very least…
