In the last 120 years, humanity has been documented many of its most important moments on film. Most has since been digitised, and we all know that there are very few things that you cannot find online.

For most of us, YouTube is the first place to look, since the platform has dominated online video for many years now. Even with Facebook‘s recent drive to become a more powerful video platform, and it’s recent “boycott” of YouTube videos, YouTube is still massive and keeps on growing.

The bombing of Pearl Harbor, San Francisco in 1906 after its big earthquake, the Tiananmen Square student uprising… the collapse of the Berlin Wall, the Hindenberg disaster, a 1946 video of a cat and puppy, or even a 1955 “kitten spinning radiogram” video?

Yes, you heard that right. It seems that cuteness transcends time. Even before the internet, when people were unable to upload videos to YouTube, cute animal videos were popular and made many people swoon. Here’s British Movietone’s “Happy Family of Kittens, Bird and Puppy”, that everyone can now enjoy freely.

YouTube has become more of a visual encyclopedia over the years and less of a social platform, and is now extending its impressive collection of footage. The footage is not free-to-use however. If you would like to use any of it for your own purposes, you will need to license it through the appropriate channels.
