Fun Pop Mashup Of The Week #84

by • July 22, 2016 • Social FunComments Off on Fun Pop Mashup Of The Week #843686

Happy Friday! How did you enjoy the weather this week?! Yep, it was pretty tropical out there. And since we’ve been waiting for a little heat for a while… everyone started moaning about how hot it got. (insert eye-rolling emoji here)

To be fair, travelling into London every day was pretty intense on the tube and the trains. Especially with a 50ft sinkhole completely messing up the trains for a couple of days. What are the odds? The one day there was no rain and definitely no snow… yet still the trains are affected.

Anyway, enough of the travel/weather news, let’s smash into the mash!

So, this week Melania Trump definitely got the award for top plagiariser! And the Internet really doesn’t let that kind of stuff fly. Donald Trump’s wife faced days of Twitter backlash after shamelessly plagiarising a speech Michelle Obama delivered wonderfully in 2008.

Here is a mashup of the two speeches, side by side, in case you missed it. Soon afterwards, actor and activist Jesse Williams (Grey’s Anatomy in case you can’t remember where you know him from) started the hashtag #FamousMelaniaTrumpQuotes on Twitter and jokingly attributed Sojourner Truth’s famous “Ain’t I A Woman” speech to The Donald’s wife.

Within 10 minutes, celebs like Anna Kendrick and Joseph Gordon-Levitt chimed in with even more misquotes… and so it snowballed. Here are the highlights for you:

My Lilo Is Better Than Yours

2016 is definitely the year of the lilo – I will say it right now! Never before has this rubbery floatable device received as much attention as on Instagram this year. There is a lilo in every other post it seems. We have moved from #foodporn to #lilolove… and I’m not talking about Lindsay Lohan.

Pretty much any blogger who’s been near a pool or a beach in recent months has frolicked on/around/near a lilo. And there have been some pretty good ones out there, I admit. There are swans, flamingos and doughnuts and watermelon slices. And ice cream cones and pineapples and unicorns and PIZZA!

Oh, the places you’ll go! @novak1112

Someone get me that pizza one, STAT!

From crazy lilos to emoji versions of yourself for Snapchat. I know, what a time to be alive. On Tuesday this week, Snapchat announced a new integration with BitStrips (owner of the popular emoji app Bitmoji), which it purchased back in March. After designing and customising emojis of yourself in Bitmoji, you can integrate the stickers into your Snapchat to plaster as you please.

Now, making these babies is really straightforward. You can select everything from face shape to skin tone, hair color and style, even outfits ranging from onesies to Ghostbusters themed uniform! It shouldn’t take you long to create yourself in animated form. It took me five minutes, and that’s mainly because I couldn’t decide whether to go for a cat onesie or just a t-shirt.

To start using your emoji in Snapchat, you’ll need to tap on the square in the upper right hand corner to turn on the stickers feature, and you’ll find your Bitmoji in the second sticker category (the one with the face).

Here’s mine! I particularly enjoy my cat t-shirt…

Snapchat paid about $100 million for Bitmoji and was pretty much part of Snapchat’s strategy to buy anything that may become a threat. Pretty similar to Facebook’s way of doing things really… remember when it tried to buy Snapchat for $3 billion when the app was just getting popular?

Tumblr’s Still Kicking

French car-maker Citroën has turned to Tumblr for its latest ad campaign, creating an auto artwork gallery of short videos. La Traction Creative is the title of this creative project featuring the work of artists, content creators and creative agencies.

The project is designed to challenge creatives to produce emotional short videos using one of the brand’s products. Most videos are around 30 seconds long. The brand offers total freedom to create whatever the artists want, to as long as it conveys emotion and includes some element of a Citroën product.

There are currently 28 works up there, and content will be added throughout the summer, ahead of the 2016 Paris Motor Show this autumn. The goal is to have a total of 60 short videos up by then.

Now that should have given you plenty of ideas for the weekend. Get a crazy lilo, get that Bitmoji into Snapchat, and never steal a speech… because #TheInternet never forgets. Oh, and maybe buy a Citroën! Over and out.
