Facebook Will Test Ads On Apple TV And Roku

Where is the one place that you have yet to see Facebook ads? Your phone? No. Your computer? Surely no! Your TV? Yes, but that could be changing very soon…

It’s no secret that Facebook’s revenue is almost entirely made up of advertising revenue. It also is no secret that the company is running out of ad space on the News Feed. Therefore, it actually makes sense for Facebook to expand to other platforms.

A move to Internet-connected TVs is logical for Facebook. The company will use Facebook data to target ads for A+E and Tubi TV, in a very similar way to the one it already uses for websites and mobiles apps, through its Audience Network.

It’s a very limited test for now, and it will only take place among US  Apple TV and Roku viewers. There is little doubt however, that it could be extended; should the result be positive for Facebook.

The news was first reported by Recode, and the test was later confirmed to TechCrunch by a Facebook spokesperson:

We are testing how to best deliver video ads through Audience Network to people watching content on connected TVs. Our goal is to bring relevant ad experiences to people both on Facebook and off.
