3 Social Media Books Everyone Should Read This March

Social media has become one of the biggest sources of distraction. The News Feed “bubble,” influencers, digital celebrities… the new social media marketing is about more than the “message” – it’s about making our voice heard through the “noise”.

This month I really wanted to address how some content – and some people – manage to become the centre of our attention on social media. So I selected two books that I think provide some good answers: The Filter Bubble looks into how personalisation has changed the way we consume information, while Hit Makers provides a great perspective on how we can still succeed into this world of distraction.

And of course, how could I forget a “Snapchat Marketing” book? The company is about to go through the biggest step in its young history, the already famous Snap Inc. IPO. It’s hard to find the best book to talk about Snapchat Marketing because the platform never stops evolving.  I chose Snapchat Is The New Black by Cedric Nic – because it really gives a complete insight on why Snapchat will be a big win for your business.

Hope you enjoy reading them!

Hit Makers

Hit Makers: The Science of Popularity in an Age of Distraction – by Derek Thompson

wersm-books-march-hit-makers Nothing “goes viral.” If you think a popular movie, song, or app came out of nowhere, to become a word-of-mouth success in today’s crowded media environment – you’re missing the real story.

Each blockbuster has a secret history – of power, influence, dark broadcasters, and passionate cults that turn some new products into cultural phenomena. Even the most brilliant ideas wither in obscurity, if they fail to connect with the right network, and the consumers that matter most, aren’t the early adopters – but rather their friends, followers, and imitators – the audience of your audience.

The Filter Bubble

The Filter Bubble: How the New Personalized Web Is Changing What We Read and How We Think – by Eli Pariser

wersm-books-march-filter-bubble In December 2009, Google began customizing its search results for all users – and we entered a new era of personalization.

With little notice or fanfare, our online experience is changing, as the websites we visit are increasingly tailoring themselves to us. In this engaging and visionary book, MoveOn.org board president Eli Pariser lays bare the personalisation that is already taking place on every major website, from Facebook to AOL to ABC News. As Pariser reveals, this new trend is nothing short of an invisible revolution in how we consume information – one that will shape how we learn, what we know, and even how our democracy works.

Snapchat Is The New Black

Snapchat Is The New Black: The Unrivaled Guide To Snapchat Marketing – by Cedric Nix

wersm-books-march-snapchat-marketing The advent of Social Media has seen an upsurge in new ways to do business and to promote individuals and companies to a vast and ever expanding audience. At the time of writing almost 3 billion people worldwide are using the main networks.

Using social media as a marketing tool is nothing new and has been a preferred method for some time, but in this new book you may discover something different.
