Following the love that last month’s book recommendations generated, I felt the pressure to do even better this month. I picked these 3 books because they cover the whole topic – in my opinion – from the “why” of social media, to the “how” things should be shared with your audience in order to achieve the results you are hoping for.
We are all on social media nowadays, but few really understand the reason WHY. It has become more of a “you must be on social, all your competitors are already there” than a “this is why social media is right for your business.” And that’s what Mark Schaefer’s book is all about. Helping you find the why.
And once you have reached that point where you know why you are going to do what you are going to do, it’s time to look at how to do it right. And to me that’s where storytelling really comes into play. The next two books, by Ekaterina Walter and Jonah Berger, will take you through how to tell your story and get it spread.
Social Media Explained
|Social Media Explained will soon become your go-to resource for everything social media. Mark Schaefer unravels the most misunderstood and confusing business trend in this fun and easy-to-read book.
“Social Media Explained” explores the fundamental strategies, and answers the biggest questions every business professional needs to answer before diving into a social media initiative! This is the must-have guide for understanding the sociological and psychological drivers that make social media marketing work.
The Power Of Visual Storytelling
|Attention is the new commodity. Visual storytelling is the new currency. Did you know that our human brain processes visuals 60,000x faster than text? That Web posts with visuals drive up to 180% more engagement than those without? Or that viewers spend 100% more time on web pages with videos.
The Power of Visual Storytelling explains how to grow your business and strengthen your brand, by leveraging photos, videos, infographics, presentations, and other rich media.
Contagious: Word Of Mouth In The Digital Age
Contagious: How to Build Word of Mouth in the Digital Age – by Jonah Berger
|Why are some products and ideas talked about more than others? Why do some articles make the most-emailed list? Why do some YouTube videos go viral? Word-of-mouth.
Word-of-mouth generates more than twice the sales of paid advertising, and is the primary factor behind 20-50% of all purchasing decisions. It is between 8.5x and 30x more effective than traditional media. But want to know the best thing about word-of-mouth? It’s available to everyone. You just have to get people to talk. The challenge, though, is how to do that. This book will show you how.
If you think you don’t have time to read, think again. As marketers, knowledge is at the centre of everything we do. These 3 books will give some very usefull insight on how your social media should look, in order to achieve your marketing goals.
Enjoy reading them, and let me know what you thought of them.
